Box Score ABILENE, Texas – The McMurry University Men's Tennis squad earned its first win of the season Wednesday, defeating Schreiner 7-2 at the Seidel-Swagerty Tennis Center.
In dominant fashion, the War Hawks snagged five of the six singles matchups as well as two out of three doubles.
"I was a little nervous going into the match only practicing two days out of the last two weeks," said head coach
Chris Breaux. "We had some cob webs to shake off but we were able to stay mentally tough to earn the win."
Junior
Connor Hogan and sophomore
Dylan Bryant earned McMurry's first point after a comfortable 8-2 victory over SU's Jack Johns and Quinten Robertson.
Dynamic duo,
Carlos Martinez and
Chase Daniell, followed with a nail-biting win in No. 1 doubles against Carson Kirk and Dennis Miller. The pair won the match in tie-breaker fashion, 8-7 (11-9).
In singles play, the War Hawks continued to pound the pavement, tacking five more points onto the McMurry lead.
Martinez and
Reid Smith both won their matches 6-2, 6-2.
Daniell earned the fifth point for McMurry with a 6-2, 6-4 win over Dennis Miller.
Senior
Joseph Diaz posted a 6-3, 6-3 win while
Chris Causer added a 6-1, 6-2 mark to conclude the match.
Up next, the War Hawks head into conference action with a matchup on Friday against LeTourneau at the Seidel-Swagerty Tennis Center. First serve is set for 2 p.m.
