ABILENE, Texas – McMurry University Men's Basketball will host its final two home games of the regular season this week, welcoming Belhaven University and Louisiana College to Kimbrell Arena.
The War Hawks will square off with the Blazers Thursday at 7:30 p.m., while hosting the Wildcats Saturday at 3 p.m. Saturday will also be senior day for McM, with the ceremony taking place after the women's game. Live stats and video links will be available at mcmurrysports.com.
NOTES:
LAST WEEK: McMurry split a pair of hard-fought games at home, downing Mary Hardin-Baylor in 111-109 in overtime before falling to Concordia Texas, 80-71.
WILLIAMS HONORED: Senior forward Mike Williams Jr. was named the American Southwest Conference West Division Player of the Week, after averaging 23.5 points, 10.0 rebounds and 1.5 blocks per game. He scored 21 points with seven boards in the win over UMHB, and tallied 26 points and 13 rebounds against Concordia. He shot 18-for-19 at the line versus the Tornados.
CARTER COUNTER: Senior guard Zacc Carter currently sits at 947 career points, needing 53 to reach the 1,000 points plateau. Carter can become the 30th player in program history to reach 1,000 career points.
FREE BASKETBALL: McM improved to 2-0 in overtime games this season with the 111-109 overtime win over UMHB last week. The other was a 98-96 win over Howard Payne.
STATISTICAL LEADERS: Williams leads five players averaging double figures for the War Hawks at 14.2 points per game. The others are Dedrick Berry Jr. (10.8), Cody LeBlanc (10.6), Zacc Carter (10.2) and Khalil Butler (10.1). Williams also leads the team in rebounding at 7.6 per game, followed by Krishawn Terry at 7.1 per game.
SCOUTING BU: Belhaven enters Thursday's contest having split last week with McM's other opponent, Louisiana College. The Blazers are 8-11, 5-5 ASC. Brosnan Cooks leads the Blazers averaging 17.5 points per game, fifth in the conference. Cooks is also fifth in the ASC in rebounding at 7.5 per game. Belhaven is last in the ASC in rebounding at 31.9 per game, but leads the league in assists at 17.8 per contest.
LAST YEAR: McM defeated Belhaven 105-100 at Kimbrell Arena in double overtime. Zacc Carter scored a career-high 35 points in the win.
SCOUTING LC: Kae'ron Baker is third in the league in scoring at 20.5 points per game for a Wildcat team that is 11-8, 5-5 ASC. Louisiana College is second in the ASC in scoring defense at 73.9 points per game. The Wildcats are the top three-point shooting team in the league at 39.1 percent.
THE SERIES: McMurry leads the all-time series with Belhaven, 4-2, having won the last three meetings. The War Hawks also lead the series with the Wildcats, 11-5.
