ABILENE, Texas – McMurry University Men's Basketball heads out on the road this week, facing the teams at the top and bottom of the American Southwest Conference West Division.
The War Hawks will travel to division leader Sul Ross State for a 7:30 p.m. matchup Thursday, and then visit last place Howard Payne Saturday at 3 p.m. Live stats and video links for both games can be found at mcmurrysports.com.
NOTES:
LAST WEEK: McMurry couldn't hold on to a pair of leads in the second half, falling 94-89 to Belhaven in overtime and 67-57 to Louisiana College in the home finale.
CARTER COUNTER: Senior guard Zacc Carter continues to creep closer to 1,000 career points, now sitting at 975 points after scoring 28 points in two games last week.
ON THE ROAD AGAIN: The War Hawks close the regular season with four road games after playing their home finale last week. McM has played nine of their 12 conference games inside Kimbrell Arena.
STATISTICAL LEADERS: Senior forward Mike Williams Jr. leads the War Hawks with 14.8 points and 8.1 rebounds per game. Freshman guard Cody LeBlanc (10.8), Carter (10.5) and senior guard Dedrick Berry Jr. (10.4) are also averaging double figures in scoring.
GIMME THAT: McMurry leads the ASC in defensive rebounding at 30.4 per contest.
SCOUTING SRSU: The Lobos lead the ASC West with a 10-2 conference record and are 13-8 overall. Guard Tristen Licon was named to the D3hoops.com Team of the Week and is the reigning ASC West Player of the Week. Licon is averaging a team-high 18.9 points and 5.8 rebounds per game.
SCOUTING HPU: The Yellow Jackets have lost 19 consecutive games and sport a 1-20, 0-12 ASC record. Guard Jase Miguez continues to pace the HPU offense with 20.6 points per game, good for third in the league. Howard Payne allows the most points in the league at 93.3 points per game.
THE LAST TIME: In the first meeting between the War Hawks and Yellow Jackets, Williams scored a career-high 32 points in a 98-96 overtime win. The Lobos defeated the War Hawks 90-65.
