ABILENE, Texas – McMurry University Men's Basketball returns home this week to begin a five-game home stand, beginning with Thursday night's matchup against crosstown rival Hardin-Simmons University.
Since McM is playing its travel partner, it will be the only game of the week for the War Hawks. Tipoff for Thursday's contest is set for 7:30 p.m. Live stats and video links will also be available at mcmurrysports.com.
NOTES:
LAST WEEK: McMurry suffered a pair of setbacks on the road, falling 98-76 at Concordia Texas and 103-77 at Mary Hardin-Baylor.
CARTER COUNTER: Senior guard Zacc Carter eclipsed 900 career points last week against Concordia when he scored 17 points. He then added 21 points at UMHB and sits at 931 career points, just 69 shy of 1,000.
FREE POINTS: In four of McM's six wins this season, the War Hawks have made as many or more free throws than their opponents. Only once has McM made more free throws in a loss.
BLOCK PARTY: McM is fourth in the ASC in blocks at 3.6 per game. On the season, the War Hawks have blocked 57 shots, while only having their own shot blocked 34 times.
TOP 5: McMurry's five leading scorers in conference play are all averaging more than 10.0 points per game. Senior forward Mike Williams Jr. leads the way with 15.3 points per game, followed by Carter (12.1 ppg), freshman guard Cody LeBlanc (11.7), senior guard Dedrick Berry Jr. (11.3) and junior guard Khalil Butler (10.6).
LAST TIME: McM won on the road at Hardin-Simmons December 3, rallying from a 16-point first half deficit for a 76-62 win to open conference play.
SCOUTING HSU: The Cowboys enter the rivalry game at 5-11, 1-6 ASC, having lost nine of thelr last 10 games. Two players average more than 10 points per game for the Cowboys, in guards Kyle Brennon (15.1) and Steven Quinn (12.3). Guard Chris Barrett leads the league in steals (2.9 pg) and is second in assists (4.8 pg), while forward Trey Woolridge leads the ASC in blocks (1.9 pg).
