War Hawks look to snap streak at Blazers

ABILENE, Texas – McMurry University Baseball heads on the road this week to visit Belhaven University, where the War Hawks and Blazers will match up for three games. Due to the Easter holiday, the series will begin Thursday and conclude Friday.

Thursday's doubleheader has a first pitch scheduled for 4 p.m. with game two to follow, while Friday's single game is slated for 1 p.m. Live stats and video links will be available at mcmurrysports.com.

The War Hawks will also host Trinity University Tuesday at 2 p.m. before concluding conference play the following weekend. Live stats and video links for that contest will also be available at mcmurrysports.com.

NOTES:

LAST WEEK: McMurry suffered three close losses at home to UT Dallas, falling 7-6 in game one. In game two, McMurry fell 11-9 before dropping game three, 15-11.

NINE FOR NINE: All nine in the batting order recorded at least one hit and scored one run in Sunday's series finale against the Comets.

AT THE PLATE: Right fielder Mike Gonzales and third baseman Sam Hillyer lead McMurry at the plate with batting averages of .389 and .379, respectively. Gonzales leads the War Hawks with 27 RBIs while Hillyer is tops with a .553 slugging percentage.

OFF THE BENCH: First baseman Marty Carnahan has been pressed into a starting role, and is currently on an eight game hitting streak. In his last seven starts, Carnahan is hitting .433 with two doubles, two triples, seven RBIs and three runs scored.

HOT HITTING: Despite the losses over the weekend, McMurry hit .351 as a team, by .545 by Hillyer and .500 by Carnahan. Catcher Blaine McRay and Gonzales also hit over .400 on the weekend, and three more hit .308.

STREAK WILL END: When McMurry and Belhaven meet for game one of the series, one of the teams will break a long losing streak. McMurry is looking to snap a 12-game skid while the Blazers are on a 10-game losing streak.

SCOUTING BU: The Blazers are 9-27, 2-16 ASC and on a 10-game losing streak. Trip Benson has the top average of everyday players at .301, while Justin Milam leads the Blazers with four home runs and 21 RBIs. David Hall leads the Blazers' starters with a 5.59 ERA and 4-3 record.

SCOUTING TU: The Tigers are currently 27-9, 11-4 SCAC and ranked No. 6 by d3baseball.com. Rafe Chaumette leads the Tigers with a .395 average and 36 RBIs, while Corey Cater posts a 6-2 record with four saves and a 2.40 ERA on the mound.

LAST TIME: In 2018, McMurry picked up a 3-1 road win over the top ranked Tigers.
