ABILENE, Texas – McMurry University Baseball is back in action at the friendly confines of Walt Driggers Field Friday and Saturday, as the War Hawks will play host to the University of Texas at Dallas Comets in a three game American Southwest Conference series.
With rain in the forecast for Saturday, the games were moved up to a doubleheader Friday afternoon beginning at 3 p.m. with a single game Saturday at 1 p.m. Live stats and video will be available for Friday's action, while Saturday's game will only have live stats. NOTES:
LAST WEEK: McMurry was swept in a three game ASC series at Louisiana College last weekend.
AT THE PLATE: Right fielder Mike Gonzales tops the McMurry lineup with a .387 batting average and 25 RBIs. Third baseman Sam Hillyer is second with a .359 average, while left fielder Matthew Chalk continues to lead the War Hawks with four home runs.
AMONG ASC LEADERS: Gonzales leads the ASC with 46 hits and his .387 average ranks ninth.
CAREER HIGHS: In the series finale against the Wildcats, both outfielder Josh Jimenez and catcher Blaine McRay tallied career highs of four hits. In game two, Gonzales drove in a career high six runs.
STREAKING: Gonzales has reached base in 11 consecutive games, while first baseman Marty Carnahan has the longest hitting streak at five games and has reached base in nine straight games.
LEADING AFTER 6: McMurry is 7-1 when leading after six innings this season.
SCOUTING UTD: The Comets enter the weekend on a five game win streak which has their record at 14-16, 6-6 ASC. Craig Thomas leads the Comets in average (.354), home runs (6) and RBIs (33), while on the mound, Logan McPherson leads the team with a 3.18 ERA out of the bullpen. Ryan Vera is the team's top starter with a 3.83 ERA and 2-1 record.
