Men's Basketball hits road for final time in regular season

ABILENE, Texas – McMurry University Men's Basketball closes out the road portion of their regular season schedule this week, visiting Howard Payne University and Sul Ross State University with the fourth seed in the American Southwest Conference West Division at stake.

Tipoff at HPU is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Thursday with Saturday's tip against the Lobos slated for 3 p.m. Live stats and video links are available at mcmurrysports.com.

NOTES:

LAST WEEK: The War Hawks split their home games last week, falling to University of Mary Hardin-Baylor, 92-86, before capping the weekend with a 102-99 win over then ASC West Division leader Concordia University Texas.

KEEPING IT 100: Saturday's win marked the second time the War Hawks scored more than 100 points this season. They have won both times, with the first coming in 105-100 double-overtime win over Belhaven.

STATISTICAL LEADERS: Junior forward Mike Williams Jr. continues to lead the War Hawks at 15.0 points per game, with junior guard Zacc Carter and sophomore guard Khalil Butler averaging 13.6 and 10.4 points, respectively. Williams and Butler lead the team in rebounding at 7.8 and 6.7 boards per game, as well.

GIMME THAT: McMurry ranks in the top four in the ASC in both steals and blocks The War Hawks are fourth in steals at 7.5 per game and third in blocks at 3.6 per game.

LAST MEETINGS: McMurry swept Sul Ross and Howard Payne when they visited Kimbrell Arena in January. Junior guard Trevin Ramirez hit the game-winning free throw with seconds remaining in an 80-79 win over the Lobos, while the War Hawks handled HPU, 77-58.

SCOUTING HPU: The Yellow Jackets are on a six-game losing streak and are last in the ASC West at 3-18, 1-11 ASC. Senior guard Shadd Cole leads HPU in scoring at 16.3 points per game and is second on the team in rebounding at 6.0 boards per game.

SCOUTING SRSU: Sophomore guard Tristen Licon and junior forward B.J. Hollis each average 14.3 points per game to lead the Lobos, who sit in fifth in the ASC West at 10-11, 5-7 ASC. Junior guard Conner Dawson gives Sul Ross three in double figures at 12.0 points per game, while Hollis leads the team in rebounding at 6.7 boards per game.
