War Hawks seek sweep of Cowboys

ABILENE, Texas – McMurry University Men's Basketball will look to go for a sweep of rival Hardin-Simmons University when the two match up Saturday afternoon for the second installment of the Crosstown Showdown.

Tipoff is set for 3 p.m. in Kimbrell Arena with the seniors to be honored before the game. Live stats and video links will be available at mcmurrysports.com.

NOTES:

LAST WEEK: The War Hawks were knocked off on the road at Howard Payne, 76-63, before bouncing back with a 73-69 win at Sul Ross State to clinch a berth in the American Southwest Conference Tournament.

STATISTICAL LEADERS: Forward Mike Williams Jr. continues to lead the War Hawks in scoring at 15.2 points per game. Guards Zacc Carter and Khalil Butler give the War Hawks three double figure scorers at 13.1 and 10.2 points per game, respectively. Williams leads the War Hawks with 7.9 boards per game, as well.

ASC LEADERS: Both Williams and Carter are among the top 20 in the ASC in scoring, while Williams and Butler are both in the top 10 in rebounding. Guard Colin Taylor is second in three-point percentage at 46.1 percent.

PICKING UP STEAM: After losing seven games in a row in the middle of the season, the War Hawks have turned their season around, winning six of their last eight.

SWEEP?: McMurry last swept Hardin-Simmons in the 2010-11 season, when they defeated the Cowboys three times. They also swept the Cowboys in 2008-09 and 2009-10.

SCOUTING HSU: The Cowboys are currently tied for second in the ASC West at 14-10, 9-6 ASC. Senior guard Joe Hoeup leads the team with 17.0 points per game, with three others averaging in double figures. Hoeup is second with 5.3 boards per game, behind freshman forward Neal Chambliss, who averages 5.8.
