War Hawks seek to tighten ASC West with Crosstown Showdown

ABILENE, Texas – There is only one game on the schedule this week for McMurry University Men's Basketball: The Crosstown Showdown. The War Hawks will visit their rival on the north side of town, Hardin-Simmons University, for a 3 p.m. tipoff Saturday riding a three game win streak.

NOTES:

LAST WEEK: McMurry won a pair of games at Kimbrell Arena last week, knocking off Sul Ross State 80-79 on a free throw by junior guard Trevin Ramirez in the final seconds, before running over Howard Payne, 77-58.

THREE GAME STREAK: With the two wins last week on top of the win at Mary Hardin-Baylor the week before, the Hawks have won three games in a row, their longest streak of the season.

75: The War Hawks have scored at least 75 points in all of their wins this season. Only twice have they scored more than 75 points and lost.

STAT SHEET STUFFER: Senior Jordan Jackson filled up the stat sheet last week, averaging 14.5 points, 4.0 rebounds, 3.0 blocks and 3.0 steals per game in the two wins last week while shooting 52.6 percent from the field. He scored 18 points with four rebounds, four blocks and four steals and had three shots from beyond the arc in the win over Sul Ross.

STATISTICAL LEADERS: Junior forward Mike Williams Jr. continues to lead the War Hawks in points per game at 14.1, while junior guard Zacc Carter and sophomore guard Khalil Butler give the War Hawks three in double figures at 13.2 and 10.9 points per game, respectively. Williams leads the team in rebounding, as well, at 7.3 per game while Butler averages 7.1 boards per contest.

MR. CONSISTENCY: Williams is in the top-15 of the ASC in scoring, rebounding, field goal percentage, and blocks.

CLUTCH TAYLOR: Sophomore guard Colin Taylor has been brilliant off the bench for the War Hawks during the win streak, connecting on 10 of his last 12 three point attempts averaging 12.3 points per game.

LAST YEAR VS HSU: The teams split the two games last year, with each team winning on their home floor.

SCOUTING HSU: The Cowboys have won two in a row to improve to 11-8, 6-4 ASC, which is second in the West Division. Senior guard Joe Hoeup leads five Cowboys averaging double figures with 14.7 points per game. Hoeup is also second on the team in rebounding at 5.2 per game.
