ABILENE, Texas – McMurry University Men's Basketball will get the new year started with a pair of road games this week, visiting conference foes East Texas Baptist University and LeTourneau University.
Tipoff at East Texas Baptist is scheduled for Thursday at 7:30 p.m. with the matchup at LeTourneau slated for 3 p.m. Saturday. Live stat and video links will be available at mcmurrysports.com.
NOTES:
LAST WEEK: The War Hawks suffered a pair of losses last week on the road to NCAA I Abilene Christian University and at home versus American Southwest Conference opponent UT Dallas.
WILLIAMS RETURNS: Junior forward Mike Williams Jr. made an appearance in a reserve role for the War Hawks against UTD. He had missed the previous three games with a hand injury.
ROAD WARRIORS: With the exception of the game against UT Dallas, the War Hawks are in the midst of playing nine of 10 games on the road. The next home game for the War Hawks will be January 17 against Sul Ross State University. McMurry is currently 3-4 on the road this season.
STATISTICAL LEADERS: Junior guard Zacc Carter continues to lead the team in scoring at 15.7 points per game, while Williams Jr. chips in 15.0 points per game. Williams Jr. also leads the team in rebounding at 7.0 per game.
NEW YEAR, FRESH START: With the turn of the calendar, the War Hawks will look to end a four-game losing streak from 2018. The War Hawks are looking to win their first game of the new year for the first time since winning in 2013 and 2014.
ABOUT ETBU: The Tigers are 5-5, 3-1 ASC on the year, but are currently on a three-game losing streak. Four Tigers average double figures, led by junior guard Robby Dooley at 20.4 points per game. Dooley leads the team in rebounding at 7.1 per game, as well. Sophomore forward Jarrell Taylor is second on the team at 14.3 points per game. McMurry leads the all-time series, 15-11.
ABOUT LETOURNEAU: The Yellowjackets are on a four-game winning streak as they post a record of 7-4, 3-1 ASC. Junior guard Nate West leads the ASC in scoring at 23.8 points per game, as he leads four Yellowjackets scoring double figures. Senior forward Caleb Loggins leads LeTourneau with 7.2 boards per game as is second in scoring at 14.3 points per game. McMurry leads the series 17-6, but LeTourneau has won the last three meetings.
