ABILENE, Texas – McMurry University men's tennis had several good performances this weekend, as the program played host to the ITA Men's Southwest Regional Tournament. The individual tourney wrapped up on Sunday – after competition at various courts around Abilene on Friday and Saturday - at the War Hawks' Seidel-Swagerty Tennis Center.
McMurry was led by
Andrew Hallowell, who earned a championship at Flight D singles. Hallowell dispatched of Dylan Lane (Texas Lutheran), Jacob Canales (Schreiner), Isaac Glynn (Concordia-Texas) and Noah Villareal (Concordia-Texas) on his way to the title.
Other singles highlights for McM included junior
Carlos Martinez advancing to the round of 16 in a very talented Flight A singles field. At Flight B,
Cody Aaron reached the consolation semifinals before being eliminated.
At Flight C, both
Stone Coston and
Trey Fambrough made it to the championship quarterfinals for the War Hawks. In the Flight E consolation bracket, McMurry's
Dylan Sisouphanh won the title and
Matthew Santos was a semifinalists. Newcomer Carter Starr was a championship semifinalist at Flight F.
In doubles Flight A, Martinez and
Chase Daniell reached the championship semifinals before bowing out. The duo defeated a team from Schreiner and a pair of teams from Trinity, before eventually losing to the runners-up from Austin College.
In Flight B doubles, the War Hawks' teams of
Connor Hogan/Coston and
Joseph Diaz/
Zach Miller reached the championship quarterfinal round. At Flight C doubles, Sisouphanh and
Kaleb Collins reached the championship semifinals, as well.
Chris Causer and Fambrough were defeated in the championship quarters of Flight C.
