ABILENE, Texas – The McMurry University men's tennis team faced off versus NCAA Division 1 foe Abilene Christian University and suffered a 7-0 defeat at the Eager Tennis Center. The War Hawks fell to 4-7 on the year, while the Wildcats improved to 12-8.
ACU swept all three doubles matches to earn the first team point of the evening. For MCM, the No. 1 tandem of
Carlos Martinez and
Clayton Pope lost to the Wildcats' Josh Sheehy and Paul Domanski, 6-1. The No. 2 doubles of
Andrew Hallowell and Cody Aaron, and the No. 3 duo of
Joseph Diaz and
Zach Miller, both suffered 6-0 defeats.
The singles results had much the same outcome, as ACU won all six contests in straight sets. At. No. 1 singles, Martinez was topped by Sheehy, 6-2, 6-4, and Pope was defeated by Niko Moceanu, 6-3, 6-2. Hallowell, Aaron, Miller and Diaz lost the Nos. 3-6 bouts.
The War Hawks will return to action on Saturday (March 24) with a pair of matches. McM hosts the University of the Southwest (9 a.m.) and Texas Lutheran University (4 p.m.).
