Tennis Teams Split at LeTourneau

LONGVIEW, Texas – McMurry University's tennis teams split their matches at LeTourneau University – the men scoring a 7-2 win and the women falling by a 5-4 count – at the Davis Tennis Courts.  Afternoon matches at UT Tyler were cancelled by rain.

The War Hawks' men won two of three doubles matches to take the early lead in the team score. At No. 2 doubles, McM's Clayton Pope and Zach Miller won 8-6, with Chris Causer and Trey Farmbrough taking No. 3 doubles by an 8-5 score.

McM took five of the six singles matches to close out the team win.  At No. 1 singles, sophomore Carlos Martinez swept LETU's Christian Farris, 6-3, 6-4.  Andrew Hallowell battled for a three-set win at No. 3 singles, dropping set one, 3-6, before bouncing back to win 7-5, 10-5.

With the team score standing at 4-2 in favor of McMurry, it was Miller was next off the court by finishing off the Yellow Jackets' Collin Patterson, 6-2, 6-2 at No. 5 singles to seal the team victory. At No. 4 singles, McM's Cody Aaron was a 6-2, 7-5 winner.  Joseph Diaz closed out the War Hawks' big win with a marathon win at No. 6 singles, 3-6, 6-3, 10-5.

The McMurry women lost a heartbreaker by a 5-4 score.  The War Hawks trailed 2-1 after doubles, finding their only win at the No. 3 match with Symphony Munoz and Zayra Gomez earning a dominating 8-1 victory.

The Yellow Jackets were able to secure the match win by taking the Nos. 1-3 singles contests. With the team tally at 4-2, Munoz was locked in a battle versus LETU's Terin Murray at No. 2 singles. Munoz lost a exhausting first set, 7-6 (7-5 tiebreaker), but bounced back to dominate in set two, 6-1.  In the set three proset, it was Murray winning by a 10-7 score.

That match proved to be the difference, as the War Hawks would win the Nos. 4-6 matches and all in straight sets.  Earning the wins were, respectively, Briana Perez, Gomez and Neah Garza.
