ABILENE, Texas - The McMurry University men's tennis team lost a non-conference match, 6-3, to visiting Austin College at the Seidel-Swagerty Tennis Center. The War Hawks fell to 1-3 after the setback, while the Kangaroos jumped up to 2-2 on the year.
AC took two of three doubles matches to take the early lead in the team score. McM's lone pairs victory came at No. 2 doubles, where
Clayton Pope and
Zach Miller scored an 8-5 win over the Kangaroos' tandem of Andres Padilla and Travis Fortune.
In singles, McMurry's wins came at the opposite ends of the flights, with War Hawks' wins coming at the Nos. 1 and 6 positions. Unfortunately for the hosts, they lost all four of the other bouts in between.
At No. 1 singles, sophomore
Carlos Martinez defeated AC's Josh Granberry in straight sets, 6-1, 6-3.
Joseph Diaz was the War Hawks' winner at No. 6 singles, toppling Austin College's Bryan Walmsley.
