ABILENE, Texas – McMurry University Men's Basketball continues American Southwest Conference play on the road this week, as the War Hawks are slated to visit the University of the Ozarks and University of Texas at Tyler.
Tipoff at the Eagles is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. tonight, while McMurry takes on the Patriots at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday night. Live stat and video links are available at mcmurrysports.com.
NOTES:
LAST WEEK: McMurry had three games last week, wining a shootout at Southwestern University last Monday, 97-92, before splitting the opening weekend of conference play. The War Hawks defeated Belhaven University, 105-100, in double overtime Thursday before dropping the weekend finale, 70-60, to Louisiana College.
CENTURY MARK: The 105 points scored in the win over Belhaven marked the first time the War Hawks have scored 100 or more points since February of the 2016-17 season in a 121-95 win over Ecclesia College.
CARTER BREAKS OUT: Junior guard Zacc Carter scored a career-high 35 points in the win over Belhaven. Carter was 10-of-17 from the field, including 4-for-8 from beyond the arc. He was also 11-of-15 from the free throw line and grabbed six rebounds. The 35 points is the most scored by a War Hawks since Connor Robinson's 44 in 2014.
FROM DISTANCE: Sophomore guard Khalil Butler ranks third in the ASC with 15 three pointers made, and ranks fourth in three-point percentage at 51.7 percent.
STATISTICAL LEADERS: Carter leads the War Hawks with 17.6 points per game and is also second on the team with 5.1 rebounds per game. Junior forward Mike Williams Jr. leads the team with 7.5 boards per game and averages 15.3 points per contest. Senior forward Jordan Jackson and Butler also average double figures with 12.3 and 10.2 points per game, respectively,
ABOUT OZARKS: The Eagles are off to a 1-5 start to the season and will be playing their first conference game of the year against the War Hawks. Sophomore guard Bryson Johnson paces the offense with 13.7 points per game with a high of 23 points in a win over the University of Dallas. He also contributes 3.7 assists per game and 2.8 steals per contest. The Eagles lead the ASC in turnover margin at 3.5 per game. McMurry leads the all-time series 21-2, but Ozarks won last season's meeting, 69-64.
ABOUT UT TYLER: The Patriots sit at 3-2 overall and are on a three-game winning streak after dropping their first two contests of the season. Five Patriots average double figures in scoring, led by freshman guard Darius Alford's 13.0 points per game. Junior guard Tyrick Bennett rounds out the double figure scoring with 10.0 points per game and averages a team-high 6.0 rebounds per game. The War Hawks won last year's meeting, 91-87, and hold an 8-5 advantage in the series.
Tyler is playing an ASC schedule but those games will not be counted towards the ASC standings as the Patriots transition to NCAA II.
