ABILENE, Texas – It has been two weeks since McMurry Men's Basketball has taken the court, but the War Hawks return to action this week with pair of nonconference road games. McMurry travels to Texas Lutheran Thursday evening before visiting Schreiner University Friday afternoon.
Tipoff against the Bulldogs is scheduled for 5 p.m. while the matchup against Schreiner is slated for 4 p.m. Live stat and video links are available at mcmurrysports.com.
NOTES:
LAST TIME OUT: McMurry split its las two games two weeks ago, falling 84-71 at the University of the Ozarks before defeating UT Tyler 86-68 on the road behind a double-double from junior forward Mike Williams Jr.
WE MEET AGAIN: When the War Hawks visit TLU and Schreiner, it will be the second meeting against the nonconference foes. McMurry faced both teams at home in November, dropping a 92-80 decision to Schreiner and a 79-56 defeat to TLU.
NONCON WRAPUP: The two games this week will be the final nonconference games against NCAA III opponents for the War Hawks this year. Outside of a matchup at Abilene Christian University December 29, the remainder of the schedule features American Southwest Conference opponents.
SECOND CHANCE OPPORTUNITIES: McMurry leads the ASC in in offensive rebounds per game at 14.0 That mark also ranks tied for 41st nationally. Williams Jr. leads the conference at 3.4 per game.
AMONG ASC LEADERS: Junior guard Zacc Carter ranks seventh in the conference in scoring at 17.3 points per game, while Williams Jr. ranks fourth in rebounding at 7.5 per game. Williams Jr. is ninth in the conference in scoring at 16.4 points per game. Sophomore guard Khalil Butler and Carter rank third and fourth in three-point percentage at 48.6 and 48.1 percent, respectively. Carter's 21.0 points per game in conference games ranks second.
SCOUTING THE OPPOSITION: Texas Lutheran defeated Schreiner 68-45 Tuesday night, and Schreiner faces Hardin-Simmons Thursday before the rematch on Friday. TLU is 5-5 overall, while the Mountaineers are 2-6. Four players average double figures in scoring for TLU, while sophomore forward Matthew Rindahl leads the Mountaineers with 15.3 points per contest, and scored 27 points in the first meeting.
