War Hawks look to feast at home over break

ABILENE, Texas – A week after a long flight, McMurry University Men's Basketball returns home to Kimbrell Arena for a pair of games this holiday weekend. Friday night sees the War Hawks hosting Schreiner University before taking on Texas Lutheran University Saturday evening.

Tipoff versus the Mountaineers is slated for 6:30 p.m. Friday, while Saturdays contest against the Bulldogs is tabbed for a 5 p.m. start. Live stat and video links are available at mcmurrysports.com.

NOTES:

Last Week: The War Hawks traveled to Menomonie, Wisconsin, for the UW-Stout Tipoff Tournament. McMurry defeated the host Stout Blue Devils 79-75 in overtime before falling to UW-Eau Claire, 82-71, in its second game of the weekend.

All-time vs Wisconsin: Last weekend's games marked the third and fourth time McMurry has played a Wisconsin state school. The War Hawks are now 2-2 in those games.

Clutch Carter: Junior guard Zacc Carter led the War Hawks with 20 points in the win versus Stout, including the game-tying dunk in regulation with 13 seconds left and the game-winning layup in overtime with 9.8 seconds left.

Instant Impact: Senior forward Jordan Jackson, a transfer from NCAA II Glenville State, had a double-double of 14 points and 13 rebounds in his War Hawks debut in the win against Stout. He then scored a team-high 19 points against UW-Eau Claire.

Home Opener: McMurry is looking to win its first home opener since the 2013-14 season, when it defeated Open Bible College, 91-59.

Behind the arc: Through two games, the War Hawks have the top percentage in the American Southwest Conference from three-point range. McMurry is shooting 43.6 percent from distance, the only team in the conference over 40 percent.

About Schreiner: The Mountaineers are 1-3 to start the 2018-19 campaign, with their lone win an 83-82 victory over East Texas Baptist. Sophomore forward Matthew Rindahl leads the Mountaineers with 13.3 points per game and 4.8 rebounds per game.

About TLU: Texas Lutheran is 1-2 on the season with a one-point win over LeTourneau. The Bulldogs also visit Hardin-Simmons Friday night before the matchup with the War Hawks Saturday evening. Sophomore guard Sebastian Andrade leads the Bulldogs with 18.0 points per game, while senior guard Jacob Kouremetis averages 16.0 points per game.
