ABILENE, Texas - McMurry University's tennis had the opportunity to take the wraps off of its 2017-18 women's and men's teams, co-hosting the American Southwest Conference Invitational to open the fall portion of its season.
On the women's side, the War Hawks had eight team members finish in the top four of their flight. Newcomer
Ashley Frazier led the way by winning the "I" flight. Sophomore
Neah Garza and freshman
Morgan Parnell were the runner-up in the "G" and "H" flights, respectively.
In flight "A", junior
Samantha Ritz earned a third place finish. Likewise, fellow returnee
Zayra Gomez also grabbed a third in flight "B". Newcomer
Claire Huffine started her McM career with a third at flight "C".
A pair of returning juniors – symphony Munoz and
Briana Perez – finished fourth at flight "D" and "E".
In women's doubles play, Gomez and Munoz took top honors at flight "D". Ritz and Garza battled their way to a second place in a tough flight "A" bracket.
In the men's portion of the tourney, sophomore
Andrew Hallowell was the team's to placer. Hallowell finished as the runner-up at flight "G" singles.
Sophomore
Carlos Martinez was fourth at flight "A" singles and newcomer Cody Aaron was fourth at flight "I".
Antonio Pauda finished fourth at flight "K".
Senior
Clayton Pope won the consolation bracket at flight "B" and sophomore
Zach Miller reached the consolation finals of fight "D".
In men's doubles, Martinez and Hallowell teamed up to place third at flight "A". Fellow returnees Pope and Miller were the flight "B" consolation finalists.
Newcomers Christopher Causer and
Trey Farmbrough were the third place finishers at flight "E" doubles. Fellow freshmen
Joseph Diaz and Aaron were fourth at flight "D".
