ABILENE, Texas – McMurry University women's tennis dropped its opening match of the National Christian College Athletic Association Central Region tournament, falling to Colorado Christian, 5-4, at the Seidel-Swagerty Tennis Center. The NCCAA regional tourney concludes on Saturday with the War Hawks (14-7), taking on top-seed Oklahoma Baptist University at 11:30 a.m.
Versus the NCAA Division II Cougars, McM battled right down to the final match on the court before losing. McM trailed CCU 2-1 after doubles, with the hosts winning at No. 2 doubles with
Chloe Patterson and
Gabby Camacho topping CCU's Maddie Andersson and Paige Crews, 8-6.
McMurry crept into a 2-2 tie in the team score when Patterson turned in a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Crews at No. 1 singles. When Camacho turned in a 6-3, 6-3 win at No. 5 singles, McM briefly held a 3-2 lead in the match.
But the Cougars would win at the Nos. 4 and 6 slots, to take a 4-3 advantage. McM senior
Bree Brosig once again knotted the contest, 4-4, with a 6-2, 7-6 (8-6) win over Jennifer Perkins at No. 2 singles. That left McMurry's
Samantha Ritz and CCU's Carrie Alberson on the courts at No 3 singles, with the Colorado Christian player taking the 6-2, 7-5 win and the match.
