ABILENE, Texas – The McMurry University men's tennis team was shutout by nationally-ranked Southwestern University, 9-0, in a non-conference match at the Seidel-Swagerty Tennis Center. The War Hawks are now 6-13 on the year, while the Pirates improved to 16-5.
McM dropped all three doubles matches to open the day. The tightest contest was at No. 1 doubles, where the War Hawks' tandem of
Carlos Martinez and
Andrew Hallowell lost a 9-7 decision.
In the six singles bouts, the Pirates defeated McM in straight sets in each contest.
At No. 2 singles,
Clayton Pope lost a tough first set to Grant Gideon of SU, 7-6 (8-6). In set two, Gideon topped Pope 6-1. At No. 6 singles,
Zach Miller lost set one, 6-1. In set two, Miller made a battle of it before eventually falling, 7-5.
