ABILENE, Texas - McMurry University men's tennis lost a crosstown American Southwest Conference bout at Hardin-Simmons University, 6-3. The loss dropped the War Hawks to 6-12 overall (3-2 ASC West), while the Cowboys improved to 9-9 (4-1 ASC West) at the Streich Tennis Center.
The McM men's squad faced a huge mountain to climb after doubles, finding themselves down 3-0 after the pairs play was completed.
The War Hawks tried to climb back into the match in singles and the top of its lineup set the tone. At No. 1 singles, freshman
Carlos Martinez kept his amazing singles streak alive, defeating HSU's Alex Hunt, 7-5, 6-2, for his tenth-consecutive win. During that skein, Martinez has not lost a set and has improved his personal record to a team-leading 13-3.
At No. 2 singles,
Clayton Pope also notched a straight-set win by toppling Michael Boyd, 6-3, 6-3. However, the Cowboys would win at Nos. 3 and 4 to secure the team win.
McM got its final point of the match at the No. 6 position.
Zach Miller came out on top versus HSU's Chandler Livingston, 6-2, 6-1.

Thierry Tchenko lost a grueling three-set decision at No. 4 singles. Tchenko won set one against Andrew Eurek, 6-2, but lost the final two sets by scores of 6-2, 6-2.
