ORLANDO, Fla. – For the eighth-consecutive match the McMurry University women's tennis team emerged victorious, picking off Berry College, 7-2, at the USTA National Campus in the final match of its spring trip to the Orlando area. The War Hawks' (8-4) current run is also the longest winning streak on record for a McMurry women's tennis squad.
Despite suffering its only losses of the day at Nos. 1 and 2 singles, the McM squad blitzed the Vikings in the remaining four singles bouts. The War Hawks won the Nos. 3-6 singles contests in straight sets. At No. 3 singles, sophomore
Samantha Ritz became the first McMurry player to reach double-figure victory totals (10-2) in singles, thanks to her 6-2, 6-2 win over BC's Kelsey McCray. It was also Ritz's ninth-consecutive singles win, as well.
Zayra Gomez upped her individual record to 8-3 with her No. 4 singles win over Sage Havrilla, 6-1, 6-4. Gomez has an impressive eight-match winning streak of her own, currently.
Senior
Gabby Camacho and sophomore
Symphony Munoz earned victories at No. 5 and 6 singles, respectively. Camacho topped the Vikings' Emmie Cornell, 6-3, 6-1, while Munoz orchestrated a 7-5, 6-2 win over Valerie deWandel.
In doubles, the War Hawks' pairs all were winners, as well. At No. 1 doubles,
Bree Brosig and Ritz had an endurance test, winning 9-8 (9-7). The Bosig-Ritz team has the most wins (7-3) than any other tandem on head coach
Mark Hathorn's roster.
At No. 2 doubles,
Chloe Patterson and Camacho improved to 6-1 in pairs play, with an 8-2 win.
Neah Garza and Gomez put No. 3 doubles into McM's win column, 8-2.
