KISSIMMEE, Fla. – The McMurry University women's tennis team – ranked No. 14 regionally - extended their current win streak to seven matches, emerging victorious twice on Wednesday at Oak Street Park. The War Hawks (7-4) knocked off both the College of St. Scholastica (9-3) by a 6-3 score and McDaniel College (1-2), by a 9-0 margin.
The seven-straight wins matched the most by a McM team since the 2014-15 team also won seven in a row. The victory over McDaniel was also the War Hawks' third shutout of a foe during the win skein.
In the first match of the day versus the College of St. Scholastica, McM won two of the three doubles matches at the Nos. 2 and 3 slots. Seniors
Chloe Patterson and
Gabby Camacho, playing No. 2 doubles, topped Katelyn Rice and Elizabeth Fink of CSS, 8-4, for their fifth-straight win in doubles. At No. 3 doubles,
Zayra Gomez and
Neah Garza won a tough bout against the Saints' Miki Samz and Alexia Brascugli, 8-6.
In singles, the War Hawks breezed to straight-set victories at the Nos 1-4 positions. At No. 1 singles, Patterson won a 6-4, 6-1 victory over Jessica Solberg and
Bree Brosig took No. 2 singles by shutting out Madeline Scanlan, 6-0, 6-0.
At No. 3 singles,
Samantha Ritz topped Elise Hauer, 6-0, 6-2. Gomez was the winner at No. 4 singles, 6-1, 6-3, over CSS's Daniela Rojas.
At No. 6 singles,
Symphony Munoz won her opening set against the Saints' Rice, 7-6 (7-1). However, Rice rebounded to win set two, 6-2, and the set three tiebreaker, 10-8.
McMurry swamped McDaniel in Wednesday's finale. The War Hawks swept doubles, with Brosig and Ritz improving to 6-3 as partners with a win at No. 1 doubles, 8-1. Perez and Camacho also partnered to win at No. 2 doubles and the Green Terror defaulting at No. 3 doubles.
In singles play, McM won Nos. 1-5 in straight sets and took a default at No. 6 singles. Patterson won by a 6-0, 7-5 score at No. 1 and Brosig 6-1, 6-1 at No. 2.
At No. 3 singles, Ritz salted away her eight-consecutive win in singles with a 6-0, 6-1 win. It was also Ritz's team leading ninth win (9-2) individually.
Gomez and Munoz – playing Nos. 4 and 5, respectively – both blanked their McDaniel opponents by identical 6-0, 6-0 scores. For Gomez, it was her seventh-consecutive singles victory and upped her personal record to 7-3 on the year.
