ABILENE, Texas – McMurry University volleyball ran its current winning streak to five matches, after knocking off Hardin-Simmons University, 3-1, in a key American Southwest Conference bout at the Mabee Complex. The win improved the War Hawks to 17-7 overall and 9-5 in the ASC, while the Cowgirls fell to 10-15 and 7-7 in conference.
McMurry controlled the first two sets in front of a crowd of 527, winning 25-16 and 25-22. HSU bounced back to take the third set, 25-18. But the War Hawks closed out the match with a 25-22 win in the fourth set.
Jasmine Jones led McM with 14 kills, while rolling up a team-best attack average of .435. Jones also had a pair of solo blocks to her credit.
Jordyn Burnell had another balanced match. Burnell was the only other War Hawk in double-digit kills, with 10. Burnell also had five block assists. She also had a pair of service aces and eight digs.
Junior
Madison Reed added nine kills.
Justice McGowan and
Khristyn Howard had five kills, apiece. McGowan had three blocks and
Verlyncia Nelson blocked four HSU attacks.
In the back row, libero
Odalis Rodriguez had 18 digs.
Christian Brown contributed 13 digs, as well.
As a team, the War Hawks hit .221, with 49 total kills. Conversely, the Cowgirls had a .146 attack average.
It was also McMurry's second win over HSU this season.
