BROWNWOOD, Texas – McMurry men's tennis won its second-consecutive match by blanking Howard Payne University, 9-0, at the Naber Tennis Center. It was the War Hawks' (8-7) fifth shutout of a foe this season.
McM was dominating from the outset, winning all three doubles matches by identical 8-2 scores. Winning for McMurry, respectively, were:
Carlos Perez and
Hunter Ward at No. 1;
Rayce Roberson and Ethan Hernandez at No. 2, and;
Taylor Freehauf and Kendall Mann at No. 3.
The singles matches were equally well-controlled by the War Hawks, winning all six bouts in straight sets. Perez won 6-1, 6-1 over HPU's Edgar Torres at No. 1 and Ward took a 6-1, 6-0 score at No. 2 singles over Drew Lambert.
At third singles, McM's
Clayton Pope was a 6-2, 6-0 victor over the YellowJackets' Joaquin Alonzo. No. 4 belonged to McMurry's
Kie Jones, 6-1, 6-2 over Noah Martin.
Travis Gough blanked Jacob Martinez, 6-0, 6-0 at No. 5 singles, while
Marcus Medellin won, 6-1, 6-2, over HPU's Isaac Williams to complete the sweep.
