ABILENE, Texas – McMurry Tennis – hosting the National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) Central Region championships for the third-consecutive year – had mixed results on Day One of the tourney at the Seidel-Swagerty Tennis Center. The McM men's team defeated Dallas Baptist University, 5-1, and the women's squad lost to DBU, 5-0, in the round-robin event.
The tournament concludes on Saturday with the War Hawks facing Oklahoma Baptist University on Saturday. The women's match is at 9 a.m., followed by the men at noon.
In Friday's first round match, the McM men took two-of-three doubles contests.
Carlos Perez and
Hunter Ward won at No. 1, 8-5, and the duo of
Rayce Roberson and Ethan Rodriguez earned the win at No. 2, 9-7.
Perez and Roberson also won in straight sets at Nos. 1 and 2 singles, respectively.
Kendal Mann won at sixth singles to give the War Hawks the five team points it needed to close out then Patriots.
On the women's side, DBU swept the three doubles matches and then took a pair of straight-set wins top finish off the War Hawks. McM trailed the Patriots in the other four singles matches, which went unfinished.
