SHREVEPORT, La. – McMurry University men's tennis started its four-game road trip off with a bang, sweeping past Centenary College, 9-0. The War Hawks upped their record to 6-3, while the Gents fell to 0-9 on the year.
In winning for the fourth time in the past five matches, the McM men lost just eight games all day. In singles, the War Hawks did not lose more than one game in any set.
In sweeping the three doubles matches to start the day,
Carlos Perez and
Hunter Ward won their team-leading fifth match in doubles with an 8-3 decision. The No. 2 doubles duo of Ethan Rodriguez and
Rayce Roberson, as well as the No. 3 team of
Kie Jones and Kendall Mann, both won by 8-0 scores over their Centenary foes.
At No. 1 singles, Perez won by a 6-1, 6-1 margin, as did Jones at the No. 5 position. Ward was a 6-1, 6-0 victor at No. 3 singles. In the balance of the singles bouts – Roberson at No. 2,
Clayton Pope at No. 4 and Mann at No. 6 – all defeated their Gent opponents by identical 6-0, 6-0 scores.
The War Hawks will next face Mississippi College on Tuesday in a match played in Orange Beach, Ala.
