ABILENE, Texas – The McMurry University men's tennis team was defeated by nationally-ranked and NCAA Division I opponent Abilene Christian University at the Eager Tennis Pavilion. The War Hawks are now 5-3, while the Wildcats are 14-5.
The loss to the No. 66-ranked ACU team also snapped McM's three-match win streak.
The War Hawks came close to winning the doubles point to open the day. ACU won No. 2 doubles, 6-0. However, at No. 1, McMurry's tandem of
Carlos Perez and
Hunter Ward lost to ACU's Jason Proctor and Henry Adams, 7-6.
At third doubles,
Kendal Mann and
Kie Jones fell to Sebastion Langdon and Hunter Holman, 6-4, in another tight battle.
The Wildcats swept all six singles matches in straight sets. At No. 4,
Clayton Pope lost his first set 7-6 (3), before dropping the second to Marco Bensley, 6-2. Jones lost to Brad Gleason, 6-3, 6-2 at No. 5 singles.
McM begins a four-match road trip next Sunday (1 p.m.) with a match at Centenary College.
