ABILENE, Texas – McMurry University men's tennis picked up its third victory of the season with a convincing 7-2 win over Austin College at the Seidel-Swagerty Tennis Center. The War Hawks are now 3-2 on the year, while the Kangaroos slipped to 1-2.
At the outset, however, the final match result was not quite as evident. AC won two of three doubles matches to lead 2-1 after pairs play. McMurry's win in doubles came at the No. 3 position, where the duo of
Rayce Roberson and Kendall Mann toppled AC's Jeff Kubena and William Crouch, 8-5.
In singles action,
Carlos Perez earned a grueling win at No. 1 over Cedric Ambulo. Perez lost set one, 2-6, but bounced back to sweep the final two sets by scores of 6-4, 6-3.
Roberson, playing No. 2, upped his singles record to a team-best 4-1 by defeating Erik Meendsen, 6-2, 6-4.
Hunter Ward followed at No. 4, with a 6-4, 6-2 victory over AC's Preston Glasscock.
Kie Jones swept William Crouch, but not without some second-set work. Jones took set one easily, 6-2. In set two, Jones battled to a 7-6 (5) win.
Mann blanked Kubena in set one at No. 6 singles and then took set two, 6-4.
