ABILENE, Texas – McMurry University's men's tennis team lost its second-consecutive match, falling to perennial NCAA III power Trinity University, 8-1, at the Seidel-Swagerty Tennis Center. The War Hawks fell to 2-2 on the year, while the Tigers improved to 1-2.
TU began the day with a sweep of all three doubles matches. The McM No. 1 doubles team ofm
Carlos Perez and
Hunter Ward fell by an 8-3 score, as did
Kie Jones and Ethan Rodriguez at No. 2 doubles. At third doubles,
Rayce Roberson and Kendall Mann lost, 8-4.
In singles action, Perez lost to TU's Adam Krull, 6-2, 6-2 at No. 1.
At No. 2 singles, Roberson picked up the War Hawks' only point of the day. Roberson lost set one tom Matt Tyler, 4-6, but evened the match by taking set two, 6-1. Roberson would win the marathon deciding third set, 11-9.
No. 3 singles saw Ward taken down by the Tigers' Wilson Lambeth, 6-2, 6-4, with
Clayton Pope losing at No. 4, 6=-2, 6-1, to Liam Crawley.
Jones and Mann suffered losses at the Nos. 5-6 positions. Jones lost to Kevin Lee (6-2, 6-1) and Mann fell to Eliot Guin (6-3, 6-3).
