RICHARDSON, Texas – McMurry University's baseball team won its school-record 29th regular season game, blasting the University of Texas-Dallas, 13-3, at UTD Baseball Field. The win upped the War Hawks' record to 29-9 overall, while the Comets fell to 21-14 as their 10-game win streak came to an end.

McM's win surpassed the previous record of 28 regular season wins accomplished by the 1998 club.  That 1998 squad also holds the overall McM record for season victories, as it finished 32-18 that year after three ASC conference and three NCAA III post-season tournament games. It's the only McMurry team to eclipse the coveted 30-win plateau (the 2015 War Hawks will make their bid for school history with a regular-season ending doubleheader at UTD beginning at Noon on Sunday).

Saturday's game was cruising along with a pitcher's duel between McM's
Lanny Zier and UTD's Tyler Dauer. Neither team scored through the first three frames until the War Hawks burst through in a big way in the top of the fourth.
Ricky Garcia and
Mikal Hunter each had RBI singles, while
Joel Villarreal slugged his first home run of the season – a three-run blast – that put McM on top, 5-0.

The Comets were able to get to Zier for three runs in the bottom for the fourth, the only tallies against Zier in the game.  UTD amassed six of their 10 hits off of Zier in that fourth-inning uprising.

In the McMurry half of the seventh,
Patrick Adams drew a two-out walk on four-straight pitches. That brought
Cody Howard to the plate. Howard smashed his team-leading 15th double of the season off the right field fence, plating Adams for his team-best 42nd run batted in, as well, to make it 6-3.

A three-run eighth was keyed by designated hitter
Ben Douglas' fourth home run of the year, a two-run shot to left center.  Hunter would double and, eventually, score on a wild pitch to up the McMurry advantage to 9-3.

In the top of the ninth inning, the War Hawks erupted for four more runs.
Zack Hagan had an RBI single and Hunter powered a three-run homer to left for the 13-3 final score.

Zier went 7 1/3 innings as he improved his personal record to 8-1 on the year.  Zier struck out four and walked one.
Rody Johnson gave McM head coach
John Byington another solid performance, throwing 1 2/3 innings of hitless and scoreless relief.  Johnson struck out three of the five batters he faced.

Meanwhile, the War Hawks' batters slugged their way to the teams 27th double-digit hit total (14) and 16th game with double figures in runs scored.  McM's Nos. 3 through 8 hitters had all 14 of the team's hits.

Douglas tied a McM single game record by going 5-for-5 in the game, the 18th player in school history to collect five hits in a contest.  Douglas scored three times and drove in two runs.

Hunter was 3-for-5 with 4 RBI and three runs. Garcia was 2-for-5m with two runs, while Howard went 2-for-4 with a run and a walk.  Garcia and Howard both had an RBI, as well.
