RICHARDSON, Texas – McMurry University dropped a doubleheader at the University of Texas at Dallas to close the regular season on Sunday afternoon at UTD Field. The War Hawks (29-11) lost by sores of 5-2 and 6-5 to the Comets (23-14).

McM will be off until it begins play in the National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) Central Region tournament in Conway, Arkansas on May 13-15.

In game one, senior firstbaseman
Cody Howard got his team on the board in the top of the first inning.  With two outs, Howard smashed a ball just inside of the right field foul pole for a solo home run. It was his sixth round-tripper of the year, making it 1-0.

But neither team would mount much offense over the first four innings, as UTD's Brandon Lee and McM's
Ben Bates (8-2) dueled on the mound.  In the bottom of the fifth, however, the Comets tallied three runs off of Bates, aided by a pair of errors by the War Hawks' defense.

Down 3-1, McMurry clawed back for a run in the top of the sixth.
Patrick Adams singled, went to second on a wild pitch and then moved over to third on a fly out. A two-out single by
Ricky Garcia plated Adams to make it 3-2.

But UTD got to McM reliever
Trevor Ragsdale for two runs in their half of the sixth for the final, 5-2, score.

In game 2, McMurry trailed 3-0 after three innings of play. The War Hawks did not threaten UTD at all until the sixth, when they loaded the bases with one out, but failed to score.  However, in the top of the eighth, McM finally broke through.

McM had one of its patented two-out rallies. Garcia – who had reached on a walk – eventually would score on a wild pitch.  Then,
Zack Hagan singled through the right side to score Howard (who reached on a single) to make it 3-2.

The top of the ninth provided some more two-out magic for McMurry.  With one out,
Joel Villarreal drew a four-pitch walk and
Christian Simmons came on as the pinch runner.
Blake Smith grounded out to short as Simmons moved up to second.
Kyle Sargent went first-pitch swinging and legged out an infield single to put runners at the corners for Adams.

On a 1-0 offering, Adams crushed a ball over the left field fence that suddenly put his team on top, 5-3, heading into the bottom of the ninth.

McMurry starter
Mitch Labbie (5-2) remained in the game, issuing a walk to the Comets' leadoff batter. A passed ball and ground out moved the runner to third. Another ground out allowed the run to come home to make it 5-4, but was the second out of the frame.

Labbie then faced UTD's Tim Cole, who slapped a 0-1 pitch into right. That brought Brandon George to the plate representing the winning run. George tagged Labbie's fifth pitch for a two-run, walk-off homer that handed the War Hawks the 6-5 defeat.

While no McM players had multiple hits in the first game, Adams went 3-for-5 to lead the team's 11-hit attack in the second contest. Garcia and Sargent both went 2-for-4 and each scored once, as well.
