ABILENE, Texas – McMurry men's tennis won its tenth match of the season, knocking off crosstown rival Hardin-Simmons University, 8-1, at the Streich Tennis Center. It was the third-consecutive win for the War Hawks (10-5).
HSU fell to 2-9 on the year.
McMurry swept all three doubles contests to open the match. At No. 1,
Casjen Rico and
Dani Perez defeated HSU's Andrew Eurek and Nathan Chavez, 8-6. No. 2 went to the McM tandem of
Carlos Perez and
Hunter Ward, 8-4, over the Cowboys' Frankie Sanchez and Jordan Wilson.
Tom Weir and
Rayce Roberson, playing third doubles, were 8-3 winners over Ben Guitierrez and Chandler Livingston, improving the duo's record to 12-2.
Despite losing the No. 1 singles match, the War Hawks would sweep the Nos. 2-6 bouts and all in straight sets.
At No. 2 singles, Rico topped Guitierrez, 6-2, 6-1 to improve his personal record to a team-leading 13-2 in singles. Weir upped his record to 11-4, thanks to his 6-0, 6-0 win blanking of Wilson, while Roberson knocked off Eurek at the No. 4 position, 6-1, 6-2.
No. 5 singles went to McM's
Carlos Perez, 6-3, 6-3 over Livingston. Ward was victorious at No. 6 singles, 6-3, 6-1 over HSU's Coby Milner.
