BELTON, Texas – McMurry University's men's tennis team won its seventh-consecutive match to close out the regular season, topping the University of Mary-Hardin Baylor, 7-2. The War Hawks are now 14-5 on the year.
McM won all three doubles matches to open the day.
Dani Perez and
Casjen Rico were 8-2 winners over Scott wilding and Jake Stamps at No. 1 doubles. At No. 3,
Rayce Roberson and
Tom Weir were also easy winners, defeating the Crusaders' duo of Tevin Ogo and John Martin, 8-2, to improve their record to 14-3.
At No. 2 doubles, the War Hawks'
Carlos Perez and
Hunter Ward won a grueling 9-8 (8-5) decision over UMHB's Mark Johnson and Brendan Thompson.
The Cru won the Nos. 1 and 2 singles bouts in a pair of hard-fought matches. But McMurry would sweep the Nos. 3-6 bouts in straight sets to secure the team victory.
Taking the wins for the War Hawks – in order – was Weir, Roberson,
Carlos Perez and Ward. Weir defeated UMHB's Johnson, 6-0, 6-4 for his 15th win (15-4). Roberson won 6-1, 6-1 over Thompson at No. 3 singles.
Carlos Perez earned the 6-2, 6-2 victory over the Cru's Martin. At No. 6, Ward won a 7-5, 6-0 count over Ogo.
