ORLANDO, Fla. – McMurry University men's tennis split its pair of matches on Monday, defeating NAIA foe St. Ambrose University, 9-0, in its morning match and dropping an afternoon contest to the No. 38-ranked team in NCAA III, Coe College, 7-2. The day's work left the War Hawks with an overall record of 6-3.
In the A.M. contest versus SAU, McMurry jumped out to a 3-0 lead after doubles. McMurry then swept all six singles contests in straight sets on its way to the 9-0 win. Winning for the War Hawks was, in order:
Casjen Rico,
Tom Weir,
Rayce Roberson,
Carlos Perez,
Hunter Ward and
Clayton Pope.
In the afternoon bout against the nationally-ranked Kohawks, McM's only singles win came from the senior Rico, playing the No. 2 slot. Rico went three sets in topping Coe's Riley Galbraith, 6-4, 5-7, 10-8. With the win, Rico improved his personal record to 7-2 on the year.
In doubles play, the No. 3 pair of Weir and Roberson remained unblemished (8-0) with its 8-3 victory over the Kohawks' Chad Moklestad and Zack Decker.
