ALPINE, Texas – McMurry University's men's tennis team did not lose a set on its way to a 9-0 win over Sul Ross State University at the SRSU Tennis Courts. The War Hawks improved to 9-5 overall with the win, their sixth shutout of 2015.
McM jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the team score by sweeping doubles to open the day. At No. 1 pairs,
Casjen Rico and
Dani Perez blitzed SRSU's Juan Samaguey and Michael Torres, 8-4. No. 2 doubles went the McMurry's tandem of
Hunter Ward and
Carlos Perez, 8-4, over Ramon Castro and Ronnie Martinez.
The War Hawks'
Tom Weir and
Rayce Roberson improved their doubles record to 11-2 by defeating the Lobos' Nathaniel Boatright and Todd Barajas, 8-3, at No. 3 doubles.
McM was equally dominating at singles. At No. 1,
Dani Perez tossed a pair of "bagels" at Alex Alspach, 6-0, 6-0. No. 2 singles featured Rico earning his team-leading 12th singles win (12-2) over Barajas, 6-3, 6-1.
At. No. 3 singles, Weir got into double-digits win totals by sinking SRSU's Boatright, 6-0, 6-0. Roberson, playing No. 4 singles, topped Martinez 6-0, 6-1.
Carlos Perez also registered his 10th win (10-3) by taking No. 5 singles over Samaguey, 6-3, 6-3. No. 6 singles went to McM's Ward, 6-1, 6-1 over Castro.
