ABILENE, Texas -  The McMurry men's tennis team split a pair of Saturday matches, losing to Abilene Christian, 6-1, and defeating the University of the Southwest, 5-3.  The War Hawks are now 8-5 overall.
 
Both matches were played at ACU's Teague Events Center.
 
In the first match of the day, the War Hawks took on NCAA Division I foe Abilene Christian University indoors at ACU's Teague Events Center. At No. 1 doubles, the McMurry duo of seniors Casjen Rico and Dani Perez defeated the Wildcats' Paul Domanski and Jason Proctor, 6-4. However, ACU won both of the other doubles bouts to earn the team point.
 
In singles, the host Wildcats took five of six contests. The lone singles victory for McM came from Rico at No. 3, where he defeated ACU's Henry Adams. Rico won the first set, 7-6 and dropped the second, 6-3.  Rico then dominated the deciding third set, 6-1.
 
In four of its five singles wins, ACU won in straight sets. At No. 4 singles, McMurry's Tom Weir battled Domanski before falling 6-0, 3-6, 6-2.
 
In the nightcap, McMurry snapped USW's three-match win streak and handed the Mustangs just their second loss of 2015 in the process. University of the Southwest held a 2-1 lead after doubles play.  McM's lone win in pairs came at No. 2 where the War Hawks' team of Gabriel Aboitiz and Hunter Ward defeated Jonathan Prieto and Jose Rendon, 8-6.
 
McM won four of the five completed singles matches (No. 6 singles went unfinished once the team score was decided). The War Hawks won Nos. 2-5 singles and all in straight sets.
 
At No. 2, Dani Perez topped USW's Thomas Mizera, 7-6 (7-4), 6-1, followed by Rico's 6-4, 6-4 victory over Andrew Alfaro, giving him a McM team-leading singles record of 11-2 in 2015. 
 
At No. 4 singles, Weir was a 7-5, 6-1 winner over Rendon. Rayce Roberson took a 6-1, 6-4 decision over Alberto Hernandez at No. 5.
