MARSHALL, Texas – McMurry's men's tennis team swept all three doubles matches and then won all six singles competitions (five in straight sets), to score a 9-0 win over East Texas Baptist University at the Veterans Memorial Tennis courts.
The War Hawks improved to 1-1 (after a season opening loss at SMU three week's ago).
The No. 1 doubles tandem of
Casjen Rico and
Hunter Ward won by a 9-7 score over ETBU's Tyler Tolopka and Jonathan Castan.
Gabriel Aboitiz and
Dani Perez won 8-5 over the Tigers' Ryan Huss and Aaron Longoria at No. 2 doubles, while the No. 3 team of
Tom Weir and
Rayce Roberson dominated Laramie Linn and Connor Mason, 8-1.
At No. 1 singles, Aboitiz worked hard for a 7-6 (7-5), 7-6 (7-3) win over Tolopka, followed by
Dani Perez's 6-2, 6-3 win over Huss at No. 2. Rico won 6-2, 6-3 over Longoria at No. 3 and Weir handle Castan at No. 4 singles, 6-1, 7-5.
At No. 5 singles, Roberson dispatched of Linn in straight sets, 7-5, 6-4.
Carlos Perez, handling the No. 6 chores, needed three sets to gain the win over Scott Martin, 6-2, 2-6, 10-2.
