McM Has a Perfect Start at Centenary Halloween Tournament

 
SHREVEPORT, La – McMurry University volleyball opened Day 1 of the Centenary Halloween Tournament with a pair of victories. The War Hawks (15-9) defeated both Austin College and host Centenary, by identical 3-1 match scores.
 
In its opener versus AC, McMurry toppled the Kangaroos (22-15) by scores of 25-11, 22-25, 25-18, 25-18. As a team, the War Hawks had a team attack average of .320 and had eight team blocks.
 
Senior all-American Catherine Heath led the offensive threat with 14 kills and a healthy .440 attack average of her own. Junior Katy Headrick added nine kills, two aces and two blocks.
 
Four other players – Jessica Cory, Bethany Holub, Audrey Sanders and Jasmine Jones – all had seven kills each. Sanders had a team-best five blocks, with Jones and Cory making three and two blocks, respectively.
 
Cory and setter Morgan Thomas also each had two service aces, as the McM team served up 10 aces in all.  Thomas' 27 assists topped the War Hawks, with Jessica Tennis giving 17 "helps".
 
Freshman libero Odalis Rodriguez had 18 digs on the defensive side. Tennis made 10 digs, as well.
 
In the nightcap versus the CC Ladies, McMurry took the match by scores of 25-19, 17-25, 27-25, 25-15. 
 
Headrick had a match-high nine kills, along with four blocks.  Heath was close behind with eight kills and four blocks, as well. Cory, Holub and Jones again chipped in seven kills apiece toward the win.
 
Jones and Sanders also had four blocks, while Rodriguez's 16 digs led either squad. Holub had 13 digs.
 
Tennis had 22 set assists, with Thomas making 18 assists.
 
The tourney concludes on Saturday, with the War Hawks facing both Rust College and Dillard University.
