SHREVEPORT, La. – McMurry University volleyball completed a perfect run through the Centenary College Halloween Tournament, defeating Rust College (3-0) and Dillard University (3-1). The War Hawks (17-9) dissolved Rust by scores of 25-3, 25-6, 25-3, before knocking off Dillard by set scores of 25-13, 25-13, 21-25, 25-17.
Sophomore
Jessica Tennis led the McM assault on Rust College. It was Tennis' serve that helped produce a pair of school records. In the three sets, Tennis amassed 14 aces to break the single match record of teammate
Katy Headrick (10, also set versus Rust, in 2014). As a team, the War Hawks rolled up 30 aces to eclipse the previous mark of 24, set in 2007 against Spelman College.
Tennis also had a match-leading 14 assists, to go along with her three digs.
Lauren Heathcote added seven aces, freshman libero
Odalis Rodriguez and junior
Madison Fatheree chipped in four and three aces, respectively.
Jasmine Jones led the offense with seven kills, followed closely by
Jacie Janek and
Taylor London withy six kills, apiece.
Versus Dillard, McM senior
Jessica Cory pounded out a match-leading 14 kills and a .250 attack average. Cory also had 11 digs and a pair of blocks in the War Hawks' win.
Senior
Catherine Heath also had double-digit kills, with 11. Heath made three blocks on the defensive side, as well.
Headrick had nine kills, to go along with five service aces. Headrick also had two blocks.
Rodriguez had 21 digs and five assists.
Morgan Thomas and
Bethany Holub had 17 and 16 digs, respectively.
