Box Score HOLLY SPRINGS, Miss. – Despite another huge game from senior post player
Connor Robinson, the McMurry men's basketball team was unable to complete a late comeback bid in an 82-78 loss to Rust College at the McMillan Multipurpose Center.
The War Hawks are now 5-11 overall. The Bearcats improved to 5-7 on the year.
Rust was able to utilize runs at the outset of each period to salt away the victory. The Bearcats opened the game on a 9-2 run within the first five minutes of play, before McM battled back to trail by just five at the half, 29-24.
But a wild opening to the second stanza saw RC go on a 24-11 run over the first five minutes to stretch its cushion to 53-35. But like the first half, the War Hawks clawed back to within eight, 58-44, midway through the stanza. With 1:32 left to play, McMurry was within five points, 75-70.
Robinson led all scorers with 35 points and his 10th-straight game in double-digit scoring. It was also Robinson's fourth game this season with 30 or more points scored.
Alex Lewis finished with 13 points, all in the second half, as McMurry's only other player in double figures.
Thierry Tchenko added eight points and
Gabriel Chacon six.
Blake Cochran chipped in five points.
