ABILENE, Texas – McMurry men's tennis closed out the regular season by scoring a 7-2 win over crosstown foe Hardin-Simmons University, in a non-conference match at the Streich Tennis Center. The War Hawks (10-11) will next be in action May 6-9 at the National Christian College Athletic Association championship tournament in Mobile, Ala.
 
At HSU, McM rode a strong opening salvo in doubles play to the defeat of the Cowboys. At No. 1 doubles, the McMurry tandem of Chris Breaux and Casjen Rico picked up its team-leading 10th win (10-7) of the season in defeating Erich Bein and Nathan Chavez from HSU, 8-4.  With the win, the Breaux-Rico partnership has reached double-figure win totals in each of its three seasons, sporting an overall record of 34-19.
 
Nos. 2 and 3 doubles also went to the War Hawks column. At. No. 2, Dani Perez and Felipe Cruz got the drop on the Cowboys' Sam May and Michael McCullough, 8-3. No. 3 pairs play went to McM's Carlos Perez and Dustin Douglas. The duo topped HSU's Jordan Wilson and Andrew Eurek, 8-4.
 
With a 3-0 lead in the team score, McMurry clinched matters by winning four-of-six singles matches.
 
At No. 1 singles, senior Felipe Cruz garnered his sixth win of the season by defeating Bein, 6-3, 6-1.  HSU won at No. 2 singles, before McM senior Preston Steblein won the day's longest match over HSU's No. 3 man, Chavez, by scores of 7-6, 4-6, 14-12.
 
After the War Hawks' Casjen Rico suffered a rare singles defeat (he's now 17-4) at the No. 4 spot, Cristiano Mendes and Tom Weir won the Nos. 5 and 6 matches, respectively. Mendes blanked Wilson,6-0, 6-0 and Weir was a 6-3, 6-1 victor over Eurek.
