McMurry falls at Okla. Panhandle, 87-85

Box Score GOODWELL, Okla. – Brandon Golden scored a game-high 30 points on 10-of-19 shooting from the field, but it wasn't enough as McMurry University suffered a 87-85 setback against Oklahoma Panhandle State University Thursday night in Heartland Conference action at Oscar Williams Field House.

The first half featured four lead changes and OPSU (2-19, 2-10 HC) entered intermission with a 45-41 advantage.

The Aggies jumped out of the gates in second half on a 7-0 run to take a nine-point lead – their largest of the game.

The War Hawks gradually fought back into contention and a Kourtney Goff (Rochester, N.Y./Southern Illinois University) free throw tied it at 77-77 with 4:37 remaining in regulation.

From there OPSU was just one step ahead of McM and finished the remaining four minutes on an 8-6 run.

Goff scored 19 points and Alfred Perez (Spring, Texas/Klein Collins HS) added 12 to lead the War Hawks.

Bill Lee Jr. scored 25 points to lead OPSU.

OPSU's bench outscored McM's bench 26-12 and the War Hawks outscored the Aggies 36-34 in the paint.

The loss snaps a two-game winning streak for the War Hawks (10-11, 5-7 HC).

McM returns to the hardwood Saturday afternoon at Newman University.
