Dustdevils Shoot Past War Hawks, 85-60

Box Score

LAREDO, Texas – McMurry University couldn't contain a high-powered Texas A&M International offense and dropped an 85-60 decision Thursday evening in Heartland Conference action at the Kinesiology and Convocation Building.

The War Hawks and Dustdevils traded baskets early in the game and McM led 16-15 at 8:36 in the first half.

However, the War Hawks lead – and the game – would soon be a distant memory.

A Matthew Culliver Jr. layup at 8:25 set in motion a 26-13 run and TAMIU entered intermission with a 41-29 lead.

The Dustdevils (12-3, 5-0 HC) started the second stanza with an 11-6 run and quickly put away the War Hawks.

Kourtney Goff (Rochester, N.Y./Southern Illinois University) scored a team-high 12 points and was 4-for-9 from the field. Alex Lewis (Converse, Texas/Temple College) and Thiago Randazzo (Brasilla, Brazil/Impact Academy) contributed nine points apiece.

TAMIU made their keep from behind the arc and as a team shot 52 percent (12-of-23). The War Hawks lost the battle in the paint and were outscored by a 32-20 margin. TAMIU also grabbed 38 rebounds compared to McM's 25.

Johnel Gray scored a game-high 26 points to lead TAMIU.

The War Hawks (7-6, 2-2 HC) look to rebound Saturday afternoon at St. Mary's University. Tip is set for 3 p.m.
