Men's Tennis Loses Third Straight

WICHITA FALLS, Texas – The McMurry men's tennis team dropped its third-consecutive match on Friday, falling to UT-Tyler, 5-4, in a match played at Midwestern State University.

The day started with UT-Tyler winning two of the three doubles matches to grab the early 2-1 score in the team standings. The War Hawks' lone win was at the No. 3 doubles bout where Christiano Mendes and Preston Steblein took a hard-fought, 8-6, win over Ramon Martinez and Jonathon Karsten.

The two teams split the six singles matches, with UTT winning the Nos. 1, 2 and 4 contests.

Dani Martinez blasted Tyler's Ryan Spencer, 6-0, in their opening set at No. 3 singles. Perez, then fended off Spencer in the second set, 7-6 (8-1 tiebreaker).

At No. 5 singles, Mendes defeated Edward Timponi, 6-4, 6-2. No. 6 singles was won by the McM's Casjen Rico, also by a 6-4, 6-2 score, over Doug Kierstead.
