BROWNWOOD, Texas – After dropping its first match of the season two weeks ago, a long break proved to be the cure that got the McMurry men's tennis team back to its winning ways with a 9-0 win at Howard Payne University. The War Hawks improved to 6-1 overall with the win.
At No. 1 doubles, McMurry's dynamic duo of
Chris Breaux and
Casjen Rico improved to 6-0 as a pair with an 8-2 victory.
Felipe Cruz and
Dani Perez won at No. 2 and
Preston Steblein and
Tom Weir were victorious at No. 3 for the War Hawks.
In singles, Breaux earned a hard-fought victory over HPU's Luis Vallecillo, 6-4, 3-6, 10-6 at No. 1 singles. From there, however, McM dominated the other matches with straight-set wins. Winning for McMurry at the Nos. 2-6 slots were: Cruz, Steblein, Christiano Mendes, Rico and
Kendal Mann.
Rico's win improved his personal singles mark to 6-0, as well.
