EDMOND, Okla. – For the first time this season, the McMurry University men's basketball team never led in a contest, as their road woes continued, dropping a 77-61 decision to Oklahoma Christian University on Thursday.
In the first half Oklahoma Christian jumped out to a quick 10-0 lead which included eight points by Derek Johnson in just the first four and a half minutes. McMurry would show some fight over the next six minutes, cutting the Eagle's lead to four, 17-13, on a three-point shot by
Antonio Bell with 8:37 left in the half.
Unfortunately, Oklahoma Christian would outscore McM, 18-8, the rest of the half and the War Hawks would go into halftime down 35-21.
In the second half of play, the War Hawks could not overcome the first half deficit. McM would get to within seven points on a jumper by
DJ Stennis with 10 minutes to play but that is as close as they would get. The Eagles would extend the lead to as much as 20 before taking the contest, 77-61.
For the War Hawks,
Takoby Jackson led the offense, scoring 19 points and adding seven rebounds.
Kaylim Noel scored 10 points, while Bell and Stennis scored eight each.
McM will be back in action on Saturday as they travel to Dallas to take on the Patriots of Dallas Baptist University. The contest is scheduled for a 2 p.m. start.
