ABILENE, Texas – The McMurry men's basketball team will play host to the Rattlers of St. Mary's University on Saturday, February 16
th. The contest will be held at Kimbrell Arena, where the War Hawks are currently a perfect, 9-0 at home this season.
In the War Hawks previous contest, McM easily dispatched of Texas A&M International, 70-49, using a total team effort to come away with the victory.
Alfred Perez led the War Hawks with 16 points in the game, while
Connor Robinson scored 15 and
Brock Kimball scored a season-high, 13 points.
In the game, McM trailed just once (2-0) before dominating the rest of the contest. The War Hawks outscored the Dustdevils, 44-20, in the paint, and forced 16 turnovers, which led to 30 points. The team also benefited from 32 bench points.
On the other side of the floor, the Rattlers are coming off an 81-56 victory at St. Edward's. Kevin Kotzur led the way with 28 points and 11 rebounds while Moses Sundufu finished with 12 points and Daryell Taylor chipped in with 11.
As a team, St. Mary's shot 53 percent from the floor and took advantage of 28 points in the paint.
So far this season, Kimbrell Arena has been home sweet home for the War Hawks, as they remain the only team in the Heartland Conference that is undefeated at home this season. In the friendly confines of their own gym, the War Hawks are outscoring their opponents by 17.1 points per game (74.4-57.3). They are also holding their opponents to 37 percent shooting from the field and 31 percent from three, at home.
On the road this year, the Rattlers are below .500 (3-5), which includes a 2-4 record on the road in conference play.
In the two teams' previous contest this season, St. Mary's took care of business at home against the War Hawks, handing McM its largest defeat of the season, 71-50, on January 19. In that game the War Hawks were held to just 32 percent shooting. Jackson led the way for McMurry in the game with 16 points, while the Rattlers were led by Kotzur's 26-point, 11-rebound performance.
The game between McM and St. Mary's is scheduled to follow the women's contest, which begins at 2 p.m.
