Colorado Mines Pushes Past McMurry, 62-49

Box Score PUEBLO, Colo. – Keshia Collins scored a game-high 25 points and hauled in seven rebounds, but McMurry University couldn't keep up with Colorado School of Mines and fell, 62-49, Saturday afternoon.

Both teams traded baskets early and a pair of Tory Salazar (Houston, Texas/Jersey Village HS) free throws at the 13:58-mark brought McM to within 10-9.

However, over the next 4 minutes the Orediggers (1-1) went on a 12-0 run before a Collins jumper at the 9:38-mark ended the dry spell.

Mines lead by as much as 12, but Collins (Midland, Texas/Midland HS) nailed 3-pointers on back-to-back possessions, including at the end of the first half, and McMurry trailed 34-27 at the break.

The War Hawks inched back into the game and Collins' fast-break basket at the 13:35 mark brought McM to within 42-38.

That's as close as McMurry would come.

Mines outscored McM 20-11 over the remaining 13 minutes to clinch the win.

As a team McMurry shot 28 percent (17-of-60) from the floor, while Mines hit 42 percent (19-of-45) from the field.

Freshman Nicolette Erkman (Spring, Texas/Klein Oak HS) helped out with seven points and grabbed two rebounds.

McM (0-4) returns to action Nov. 21 and host Rogers State (Okla.) University in its home and Heartland Conference opener.
