ABILENE, Texas – The McMurry University men's basketball team will look to end a two game losing streak as it plays host to Oklahoma Panhandle State University on Thursday evening. The War Hawks come into the contest at 10-4 while the Aggies are currently 4-13 on the season.
In McMurry's previous contest, the War Hawks were defeated by St. Mary's, 71-50. After taking a 25-24 lead into half time, McM was outscored 47-25 in the second half.
Takoby Jackson led the War Hawks offensively, scoring 16 points, while
DJ Stennis was the only other player in double figures, with 11.
Currently this season, the War Hawks are 3-4 against Heartland Conference opponents. In those contests, Jackson leads McM in points per game, scoring 16 per contest.
Antonio Bell is averaging 10.4 points per game and
Alfred Perez is scoring nine points per game.
Overall, McM is currently scoring 73.1 points per contest which ranks them seventh in the conference. However, on the defensive side, the War Hawks are allowing just 64.3 points per game, which ranks first.
On the opposite side of the ball, the Aggies have lost nine straight games, including their previous contest, a 70-48 decision to Newman University. So far this season, Damar Hill and Krys Randolph are leading the way for OPSU scoring 11.8 and 10.1 points per game respectively.
Offensively, the Aggies rank fifth in the conference in points per game (74.9) and third in three point percentage (.366). However, on the defensive side of the ball, OPSU ranks last in opponents' points per game, allowing 81.1 per contest. They are also allowing their opponents to shoot just over 47 percent, which also ranks last in the conference.
Returning to Kimbrell Arena could not have come at a better time for McM. The War Hawks are 5-0 in the friendly confines of their home court. They are also outscoring their opponents by an average of 17.4 points per game at home. Reversely, OPSU has yet to win a game on the road, as they are currently 0-7 away from their home floor this season.
